Sirius Coyote Duo: Giovanni Ciarlo and Kathleen Sartor perform musical renditions of original songs that celebrate contemporary cultural, social, and environmental issues. Many of their instruments are derived from native traditions of the Americas, and are intended to reproduce sounds occurring in nature: of the wind, birds, animals, waterfalls, oceans, the jungle and deserts. They use these instruments in combination with their well developed skills on guitar, flutes, drums and voice to produce a celebratory music that is both ancient and contemporary.
Topics included: environmental awareness, community building, sustainability, hands on audience participation, cultural diversity through music, history and folklore of the Americas and Spanish and English songs for all ages!
Sirius Coyote Trio: Giovanni Ciarlo, Kathleen Sartor, and Dennis Waring make up this acclaimed group of musicians dedicated to environmental awareness and bridging the gap between cultures and musical styles of the Americas. They blend Latin, Folk, Pre-Columbian, Afro and Jazz influences to create a sound entirely their own in an exciting performance of traditional and original music. Sirius Coyote performs on over 30 musical instruments including unusual instruments handcrafted by the artists themselves.
From Mitchell School in Woodbury, “Kathleen and Giovanni’s “Going Green” performances and workshops worked beautifully with our school’s Earth Day activities. It was great to see our kids singing, clapping, snapping, dancing, and playing musical instruments!! And all this while learning about the rain forest, conservation, the story of musical instruments, and cultures of Latin America and the Caribbean!!! Thank you so much for including us in an experience that made us think seriously about ourselves as members of the earth’s community”.Music of the Americas (Grades K-12)
Enchanting rhythms and folklore enhance this highly entertaining performance with music ranging from Pre-Columbian pieces to Hispanic Nueva Cancion and World Fusion.
